Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Shane Duffy had returned to Brighton prematurely.

The 29-year-old arrived at Parkhead on a season-long loan back in September, in what looked like a dream move for the centre-back.

Duffy is a boyhood Celtic fan, and it looked likely that he’d be partaking in Celtic’s ten-in-a-row campaign.

However, it turned out to be a disaster.

Duffy made 25 appearances in all competitions, but delivered some woeful displays as Celtic let Rangers steal the Scottish Premiership title.

To make matters worse, the loan wasn’t cheap for the Hoops either.

As revealed by Sky Sports, Celtic paid around £2 million to Brighton for Duffy’s temporary services.

They also contributed £25,000-a-week towards the 41-cap Republic of Ireland international’s £45,000-a-week wages.

All in all, it was a poor signing, and his loan has now been cut short.

In Duffy’s defence, he’s experienced a tough time of late.

The former Everton man lost his father in 2020, and was perhaps unable to grieve properly due to the restrictions caused by COVID-19.

Hopefully, Duffy can rediscover the form that made him an impressive Premier League defender for Brighton.

Let’s see what some Celtic fans on Twitter have been saying about the club’s announcement…
