Everton fans generally seem surprised and slightly disappointed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint Paulo Fonseca.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported last night that Tottenham were going to offer Fonseca a three-year deal and he was ready to take the job.

The Portuguese had been linked with the Everton vacancy too, following his departure from Roma.

And many Everton fans wish that they had beaten Tottenham to the punch.

Good for Spurs?

Unfortunately the reaction over Fonseca hasn’t been as popular at Tottenham.

He does appear to be a rather risky appointment, given he has never managed in the Premier League before.

Fonseca has been in charge at Roma most recently, but also enjoyed success at the likes of Braga and Shakhtar Donetsk.

His job at Tottenham looks to be his highest profile to date, though, and it will be his first on English soil.

Fonseca does fit the mould of being a younger coach, who should have more innovative ideas.

But after having a manager of the calibre of Jose Mourinho in charge, and being in talks with Antonio Conte, there are some question marks over whether the appointing actually shows enough ambition.
