Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter in disgust after the club announced that academy prospect Tyreik Wright had suffered vile racist abuse on Instagram.
The 19-year-old is currently on loan at Walsall – Villa are working with the League Two outfit to provide the teenager with any support he requires.
The sickening messages – which we will not show – have been reported to both Instagram and also the West Midlands Police department.
Villa are also in discussions with the West Midlands Police’s Hate Crime Unit, who are now investigating the incident.
It goes without saying that this is absolutely abhorrent, and it’s dystopian that things like this seem to be happening on a daily basis nowadays.
It is completely unacceptable to racially abuse anybody, but to direct abuse at an innocent 19-year-old is just unbelievable.

Incidents such as this are likely to affect Wright’s confidence and mental health, while you also wouldn’t blame him if he decided to stop his football career before it’s even taken off.
He’ll probably be thinking what the point of putting himself in the spotlight is if these are the kind of messages he’ll receive.
How this kind of abuse still takes place on social media is baffling.

Both Twitter and Instagram are quick enough to remove posts showing Premier League highlights and similar material, but they can’t seem to prevent racist abuse – it’s extremely questionable, to say the least.
We just hope that Wright has a strong support network, and doesn’t allow these small people to bring him down to their level.
Let’s see what the Villa fans on Twitter have said about this abhorrent news…
