Whether he would want to step into the shoes of the man who beat him to the Liverpool position or not is questionable, the Aston Villa job is another which will tempt him if he decides to move on from Wigan.
The bookies favourite is Ian Holloway, just 2/1 who it could be argued needs a new challenge after narrowly missing out on promotion with Blackpool.

Our tip for the job, is Uruguayan manager and ex-Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet. He is the current manager of Brighton and Hove Albion, a side who have earned praise for playing an attractive brand of football.
He led them to a top 10 finish in their first season in the Championship after promotion the previous year, an achievement which should not be dismissed simply because of Southampton’s back-to-back promotions.
Poyet is a young manager, ambitious, and one who is destined for the top. If Swansea don’t move for him, they may find either West Brom, Aston Villa, Norwich or Wigan do.
He is the current second favourite for the job at 4/1, and we believe he is a good bet. A bad one is Mick McCarthy at 20/1. Don’t go there.
