Gus Poyet has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 31st October, that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli needs to concentrate on his football.

Alli has started to form a brand for himself, and regularly features on advertisements – as he grows his reputation on and off the pitch.

And Poyet claims that the Spurs youngster should be focusing more on what is happening on the pitch.

He said: “I love Dele Alli as a player. I think it’s too many issues about him. From my honest opinion, I would say you need to concentrate on football.

“He could be one of the best. Forget about the rest, forget about the media. I’m not saying not to have a life, but there is ways of doing it. If he does concentrate on football it’s going to be amazing to watch.”

Alli’s performances have dipped slightly this season, but Mauricio Pochettino has continued to pick the 21-year-old regularly for Spurs.

And even though Alli’s overall game may not have reached the heights of previous campaigns, he has still shown why he is so highly rated.

Alli has scored five goals in 12 games for Tottenham across all competitions, with the youngster proving he has not lost his ability to score.

Alli has actually been used in a deeper role more recently, and there are suggestions that as his career progresses, he could play in central midfield more often.

Tottenham are next in action tomorrow evening when they take on Real Madrid in Champions League action.
