Marseille sporting director Gunter Jacob has opened up on the transfer saga involving Tottenham Hotspur’s move for French winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou this summer.

It looked as though Spurs had completed a deal for the player back in July – with Clinton N’Jie heading in the other direction – but in the end the deal was not concluded until transfer deadline day.

Jacob has now told La Provence, as reported by But!, that he was not happy with the deal on the table agreed by the outgoing Vincent Labrune and he renegotiated the deal when he arrived at the Stade Velodrome.

He stated:

“When I am asked to make decisions and sign things, I want to take responsibility, but I do not want to sign something that does not suit me. These were legal details (and) financial.”

He also stated that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was disappointed, but eventually came to terms with the deal:

“The Supervisory Board followed me. The chairman of Tottenham was disgruntled, but we did well. He still said, ‘That will do for me.’

“I told him that next time, I hoped to start negotiations.”

The delay over the deal has left the new Tottenham recruit unprepared for an immediate Spurs debut.

He now has to work on his fitness ahead of making his Spurs debut, as he did not train whilst the saga was ongoing.

Spurs fans will now be excited to see what all the fuss is about regarding their new recruit – and if he can have a bigger impact than the departing N’Jie.
