Some Arsenal fans on Twitter want to see Massimiliano Allegri take over from Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta is under increasing pressure at Arsenal following the club’s elimination from the Europa League semi finals in midweek.
With the Gunners ninth in the Premier League table, it was Europa League or bust for Arteta’s side and now there’s questions over whether he’ll remain in charge.
David Ornstein of The Athletic has reported that the Spaniard will survive the axe and that the North London club’s hierarchy remain behind him.
But the same cannot be said for quite a lot of Arsenal fans who have been calling for his head on Twitter since Thursday night.
Allegri has won six top-flight league titles in Italy – one with AC Milan, five with Juventus – but he’s been out of work since leaving the Turin club in 2019.
And some Arsenal fans on social media want to see their club swoop for the out-of-work 53-year-old coach.
Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter:
Arsenal, despite having a shocker of a Premier League campaign, are still a huge club and one with a billionaire at the very top.
Therefore, it isn’t difficult to imagine Allegri considering a move to the Emirates Stadium if they were to make an offer.
Then again, there’s a reason why Arsenal hired Arteta – who had zero managerial experience – in the first place and it’s probably because he was the cheap option.
Allegri is one of the most decorated coaches in European football and although he’s free, he would command a huge salary and time will tell whether Arsenal are ready to stop taking shortcuts.
