Newcastle United are reportedly pursuing RB Leipzig’s Peter Gulacsi.
According to ESPN, Newcastle United are interested in signing RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi this summer – and manager Rafael Benitez has praised him in the past.
The Magpies have completed deals for Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo, Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy this summer, but Benitez is still keen on more new signings before the start of the new season.

It’s now claimed that Newcastle want to secure a deal for RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi – and it’s fair to say that Benitez has been a fan of the Hungarian in the past.
The 27-year-old shot-stopper was signed by Benitez at Liverpool back in 2007, handing him a season-long loan deal at Anfield before signing him permanently from MTK Budapest.
Gulacsi had loan spells with Hereford United, Tranmere Rovers and Hull City before moving on to Red Bull Salzburg, and later sister club RB Leipzig in 2015, where he has impressed with 33 Bundesliga appearances last season.
In 2009, with Gulacsi attempting to establish himself at Liverpool, then-Reds boss Benitez told the club’s official website that he felt Gulacsi was a ‘fantastic’ young goalkeeper and was really pleased with his development.

Now, the timing appears ideal for a reunion. Newcastle are certainly in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, having allowed Matz Sels to join Anderlecht on loan and frozen Tim Krul out of action, with Gulacsi potentially emerging as the No. 1 goalkeeper Benitez wants.
Meanwhile, Gulacsi’s role at Leipzig is under some threat after they signed Swiss talent Yann Mvogo from Young Boys this summer, and Gulacsi may well fancy a reunion with Benitez and guaranteed playing time with the Magpies – if they can convince Leipzig to sell this summer.
