After Naby Keita suffered an injury against Barcelona it became quickly apparent that his season could be over.

Indeed he missed the culmination of the Premier League season and the Champions League final. For Liverpool it is best he rests up ahead of pre-season.

That does not seem likely, with Keita possibly set to be involved for Guinea at this summer’s African Nations Cup.

Comments from Guinea manager Paul Put suggest a worst case scenario could be playing out for Liverpool.

Put told Foot224 that he has been putting the Liverpool star under pressure to play.

He said: “I put a lot of pressure on Liverpool to [send him] as soon as possible.

“In the end, I said that if Naby does not come now, it will be difficult to put [him on] the list for Afcon. He said he will play against Egypt.”

The match Put refers to is Guinea’s final warm up game on June 16, this coming Sunday. Guinea’s first tournament game is on the 22nd.

If Keita aggravates his groin injury it could cause him to miss the start of the coming season. As it is, he is scheduled to return late.

The way it sounds like he is being put under pressure to return early is a worst case scenario for the Reds, and fans would be right to be worried.
