Emmanuel Petit has claimed that his fellow countryman Hugo Lloris was ‘guilty’ for his mistake during Tottenham’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby on Saturday, as he told Premier League Productions (01/10/22 at 2:35 pm).

Both Arsenal and Tottenham went into the break with the scores level at 1-1, but the away side started the second half in a nightmare fashion.

Bukayo Saka’s shot from Arsenal’s right-hand side, after he cut onto his left foot, was fumbled by Tottenham’s man between the sticks.

Gabriel Jesus pounced on that error, as Cristian Romero couldn’t do much with that effort and he helped it over the line.

Things just went from bad to worse for Antonio Conte and Co, with Emerson Royal getting sent off, before Granit Xhaka added a third soon after.

Arsenal legend Petit shared that Spurs ‘never recovered’ from Lloris’ error, as he felt that the France international was the guilty party for that moment.

“That was a brilliant start (to the second half) from the Gunners,” said Petit. “I think Lloris was guilty on the second touch.

“He could have easily avoided this goal. That was an easy goal for Jesus. I think straight after the start of the second, it was a huge blow and they never recovered from this.”

TOTTENHAM ONLY HAVE THEMSELVES TO BLAME

The issue with Tottenham’s performance is that there seemed to be no plan B and it cost them.

Senior players within the group didn’t help matters and Lloris was firmly in the spotlight because he helped put Arsenal back ahead.

There might well be debates as to whether Emerson Royal deserved his red, but that type of challenge just wasn’t needed at the moment.

All in all, this is the first defeat in the Premier League for Spurs this season, fans won’t be happy that it’s against Arsenal, but this is where you react and show your worth.
