Could Arsenal star Mesut Ozil return to Real Madrid?

Well-known Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has suggested on Skysports.com that Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil is unlikely to return to Real Madrid.

Ozil was on the books of Madrid from 2010 until 2013 when he moved to Arsenal.

The Germany international was a success at the Spanish giants, and he has established himself as a key figure at the Gunners.

In a recent interview with Marca, the 28-year-old hinted that he could be open to returning to Madrid.

Balague, though, has explained why a move back to the Spanish capital is unlikely for Ozil and for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Angel di Maria, who left Madrid for Manchester United in the summer of 2014.

“I have heard nothing of the sort,” Balague wrote on Skysports.com when asked how substantial the ‘Ozil and Di Maria wish to return to Real Madrid’ rumours are. “For different reasons.

“Florentino was the man that allowed them to leave. In fact, in the case of Di Maria he forced the issue so the Argentinean felt pushed out.

“In the case of Ozil, he did not feel valued at the club and was happy to accept the move to the Premier League. Also, there is a ban in place so Real Madrid have got their hands tied up.”

Ozil achieved huge success at Madrid, but it does not appear likely that the Spanish giants would go back for him.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are doing fine without him, and it would not be easy for the German to play week in and week out for the current team.

Moreover, the Arsenal star is now 28 years of age, and it does not make much business sense for Madrid to sign someone who is close to 30.
