Aston Villa are said to be on the verge of signing Douglas Luiz from Manchester City, with Dean Smith’s side making more moves in the transfer market.

Guillem Balague’s comments to Eleven Sports about impending Aston Villa signing Douglas Luiz should excite supporters.

The Telegraph claim that Villa are on the verge of snapping up Luiz from Manchester City.

The midfielder is set to come in on a £15 million deal, and should bolster Dean Smith’s side’s options.

Luiz is not very well known in England, as he has never played a senior game for City.

However, his form out on loan at Girona has been highly impressive.

And Balague thinks that Villa have got their hands on one of Europe’s best talents.

He said last season: “This was a guy perhaps many people don’t know about but Guardiola wanted to keep him at Manchester City, when he couldn’t get Jorginho.

“This is someone that Tite wants as the number four of Brazil. He can play in different positions and he was playing a bit further forward for Girona, but this is a top, top midfielder.

“He releases the ball with quality, has a good engine and has quality with the ball. Given the opportunity he will be one of the top midfielders in Europe.”

Luiz may just be Villa’s most exciting capture so far in what has been a very busy summer.

The Brazilian is likely to walk straight into Villa’s starting line-up, and should offer an effective shield in front of the claret and blues defence.
