Tottenham Hotspur’s summer recruitment was hugely impressive, and Jose Mourinho is now reaping the rewards.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has become Mourinho’s midfield lieutenant, Joe Rodon had a fine first start on Sunday, Matt Doherty has provided vital competition at right back, Gareth Bale has shown signs of his quality and Carlos Vinicius looks to be fine cover for Harry Kane.

Sergio Reguilon is up there with Hojbjerg as arguably the most impressive signing though, making the left back spot his own.

The Spaniard has been outstanding so far, providing great attacking thrust whilst also being solid defensively.

In fact, Mourinho gave him a leg of jamon iberico for his defensive display against Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, costing the Spurs boss £500.

Tottenham fans will be loving Reguilon’s performances of late, and will hope to see the 23-year-old develop over the coming years.

The main concern though is that Real Madrid do have a buy-back clause in Reguilon’s deal, and Marcelo is now 32 with Ferland Mendy ahead of him.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has been asked about his thoughts on Reguilon, with one fan questioning whether Zinedine Zidane and co make mistake letting him go.

Balague believes that Real don’t regret the move because Zidane simply doesn’t trust Reguilon, but Balague himself believes that keeping Marcelo was a mistake and that Reguilon should indeed be playing for Real Madrid, not Tottenham.

“No, because Zidane took the decision,” said Balague. “He wanted to keep Marcelo – which, for me, that is a mistake, quite clearly – and wanted to give Mendy the number one role as left back, who is a very, very good left back.”

“He doesn’t trust Reguilon; that’s it. It cannot be a mistake when Zidane had a very clear understanding of what the three can offer. From my point of view, yes, Reguilon should be at Real Madrid,” he added.
