Stoke City chiefs are said to have met with the former Watford manager.
Guillem Balague says Quique Sánchez Flores has a decision to make regarding Stoke City’s interest.
The Sun reported on Thursday that Stoke chairman Peter Coates, along with chief executive Tony Scholes and director of football Mark Cartwright, travelled to Barcelona to speak to Sánchez Flores, who is managing the city’s other club, Espanyol.
The newspaper also claimed that the Potters want the 52-year-old in charge before Monday’s Premier League trip to Manchester United.
And both assertions are true according to Balague, who works for Sky Sports as a Spanish football expert.
Posting on Twitter this afternoon (Thursday), he added that Stoke are pushing Sánchez Flores – whose employers ‘haven’t kept all promises’ – for an answer.
“Sánchez Flores has decision to make. Stoke are insisting and he’s the favourite. Club representatives met him in Barcelona with impressive long term plan while Espanyol haven’t kept all promises. Stoke want answer soon. So it is a yes (and be in Stoke early next week) or he stays,” wrote Balague.
According to the Sun, Stoke are willing to pay £4 million to buy Sánchez Flores out of his contract, with a deal worth £3.5-million-a-year – plus bonuses if he keeps them up – said to be on offer at the Bet365 Stadium.
The former Watford boss led the Hornets to 13th in their first season back in the Premier League, before taking over at Espanyol shortly after his sacking, in June 2016.
Espanyol finished eighth in La Liga last season, but are currently 14th.
