Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has provided an update on Sunderland’s move for Vicente Iborra on Twitter.

Talksport reported earlier in the week that a £7 million deal had been struck between the Mackems and Iborra’s club Sevilla, with the midfielder claimed to be Wearside-bound in order to finalise his move.

However, according to Balague, there is work still to be done if David Moyes is to get his man, who the Spanish pundit described as a “better (Marouane) Fellaini”.

“Iborra (tall, hard working CM, a better Fellaini) could go to Sunderland if they pay more than €8m they offered + Sevilla finds substitute,” wrote the Revista de la Liga presenter.

Moyes signed Fellaini for both Everton and Manchester United, leading to Sunderland being listed by Sky Bet as favourites to sign the Belgian this summer. However, Fellaini has since impressed in Jose Mourinho’s engine room, which appears to have scuppered a third reunion with the Scottish boss.

The Black Cats, though, could have secured themselves an upgrade in Iborra, if Balague’s comments are anything to go by.

The 28-year-old has scored 22 goals in 131 Sevilla appearances to date, and was a constant in the Andalusian’s Europa League domination over the past three campaigns.
