The Tottenham Hotspur star has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague suggested that Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen remains a target for Real Madrid, but only if the Spanish giants fail to sign either Neymar or Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, when speaking during The Guillem Balague Transfer Show.

The 26-year-old’s future with Spurs remains unclear, with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2020, and he has been heavily linked with a move away from north London.

According to a report from the Express, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are all interested in signing the Denmark international in the summer.

Eriksen has been so vital to Tottenham since joining them in the summer of 2013, so losing him would be a real blow for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

And that could very well happen, according to Balague.

The Spanish football expert explained how Madrid see the Spurs play-maker as a long-term replacement for Luka Modric, when speaking during The Guillem Balague Transfer Show:

Christian Eriksen of Tottenham Hotspur is challenged by Christian Kabasele of Watford during the Premier League match between Watford FC and Tottenham Hotspur at Vicarage Road on September...

“Christian Eriksen, who is not renewing his contract with Spurs, is somebody that Real Madrid identify as a potential future [Luka] Modric and, yes, they will go to Spurs and see if they can convince Daniel Levy. But the reason why they’re not going full guns into this is because they’re still hoping that they can convince either Mbappe or Neymar to go to Real Madrid.”

In spite of Eriksen’s importance to Tottenham, should he fail to agree terms on a new deal, they might just have to sell him before he enters the final 12 months of his current contract.

And as things stand, Madrid seems to be the most likely destination for the Dane.
