West Ham United are currently on the lookout for a new manager.
Guillem Balague took part in a live Q&A session for Sky Sports yesterday, and delivered an interesting update on West Ham’s search for a new manager.
The Hammers parted company with David Moyes earlier this week, with the board thought to be keen on appointing an elite manager to really take the club forward.
The east London outfit finished the season in 13th position in the Premier League table, but in truth, that flattered David Moyes’ side.
West Ham fans expect a lot more from their team, and a manager who implements an attractive, expansive brand of football will surely feature highly on the club’s owners’ wish-list.
With that in mind, Spanish football expert Balague provided an exciting update for Hammers fans, when taking part in a Q&A session for Sky Sports, claiming that West Ham’s manager search has been narrowed down to just two candidates:
“For West Ham, It’s either Manuel Pellegrini or Rafa Benitez. It shocks me that two managers that have hardly anything to do with each other become the ones on the shortlist. What is it that West Ham want? Basically, Benitez gets the best out of his players. He’s big on formation and structure. I think Pellegrini is more about individual quality, a lot of freedom up front, players that are versatile and he’s big on possession. To be honest I don’t see a lot of similarities but I imagine they are looking for personality and they are two big personalities.”
Benitez would be a wonderful appointment for the Hammers, although he does have a £6 million release clause inserted into his contract with Newcastle, according to the Guardian.
Pellegrini, meanwhile, would be an equally exciting appointment, what with his penchant for attacking, expressive football.
If Balague proves to be correct in his prediction, there could be exciting times ahead for Hammers fans.
