Guillem Balague has revealed that Gareth Bale won’t be joining Newcastle United anytime soon.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Magpies, who are set for a £300 million takeover, are readying a £53 million bid for the Real Madrid superstar.
One of the men involved in the proposed buy-out of Newcastle is worth a staggering £260 billion.
With that sort of wealth, the St James’s Park club can afford any player on the planet – well, in theory.
Balague has revealed to Sport that because of Financial Fair Play, Newcastle will only be able to spend a net figure of £26.8 million per transfer window and that they won’t transform into the next Manchester City at the same speed at which the Sky Blues did in 2008.
And the Spanish football expert has also said that because of FFP, a move for Bale – who earns £600,000 per week in Madrid – is a no-go.
He wrote in Sport: “Financial fair play will prevent Newcastle from becoming a City at the same speed as Manchester because they were able to start the transformation before the economic limits imposed by UEFA and the Premier reached.
“Newcastle will be able to spend a net € 30 million a year. Gareth Bale, one of the footballers who has sounded the most to reinforce the magpies, to begin with, will not go there.”
Of course, Newcastle first need the takeover to go through before they’re signing anybody with a big profile in the game.
There has been another delay on that front this week, with the Premier League receiving new evidence in allegations of broadcast piracy regarding the Saudi group poised to invest in the club.
