Guillem Balague has advice for Leeds United fans over Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds fans have been urged to be patient with Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds United are widely reported to be closing in on appointing Marcelo Bielsa as manager.

SkySports report Bielsa is in ‘advanced talks’ with the Whites, who are looking to make a major statement as they try to put together a promotion winning side.

Bielsa’s biggest success in club football came with Athletic Bilbao, with El Loco’s side entertaining La Liga and beating Manchester United in the Europa League.

Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague has told SkySports that Leeds fans should be patient with the Argentine and his unorthodox methods.

He said: “It needs a proactive approach from the fans. They will go to watch the games but they will need to understand what he is trying to do to really appreciate it.

“Once they get to that stage where they understand it, and they see that electric football I have talked about, people will fall in love with him and the team.

“I think it is a brave decision and I hope it happens because it will be a fascinating experiment.”

The problem is that it is real experiment from the outside, whereas Leeds fans are more invested than pundits and neutral fans.

The days of Twitter and various other social media platforms means fan patience is shorter than ever, but in Bielsa’s favour, an attractive style of football will always help get supporters onside.

Steve Evans told SkySports at the weekend that Leeds will be better off with Mick McCarthy than Bielsa because he knows the Championship.

This is the attitude which Balague says Leeds fans must distance themselves from, and be prepared for the rollercoaster of a ride which Bielsa will bring to Elland Road.
