Well-known Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has claimed on Skysports.com that Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will not join Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Balague has stated that Ter Stegen is crucial to Barcelona, and that the 24-year-old will not swap Camp Nou for Anfield.

“Absolutely none! Zero!” Balague wrote on Skysports.com when asked whether there is any chance of Ter Stegen joining Liverpool in the summer transfer window. “He’s making fewer mistakes and he’s absolutely crucial to Barcelona.

“It’s fascinating to see the importance of goalkeepers in modern football. They start the move, they decide whether it will be short or long and they dictate the type of football played. Ter Stegen is perfect for that at Barca.”

According to a report in The Daily Star earlier this month, Liverpool and Manchester City are interested in signing Ter Stegen from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

Balague’s comments seem to suggest that the Germany international goalkeeper will not leave Barcelona in the summer.

Ter Stegen is the first-choice goalkeeper at Barcelona at the moment and is a key figure for the first team.

Leaving the European giants for Liverpool or City in the summer would be a step down for the former Borussia Monchengladbach star.

Barcelona are second in the La Liga table at the moment with 69 points from 30 matches, two points behind leaders Real Madrid, who have a game in hand.
