Liverpool fans may want to see some big signings this summer, but the global pandemic may just hit their spending plans.

The Reds are set to win their first Premier League title, but the Champions League exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid showed up some issues.

Liverpool don’t have many options behind their star attacking trio. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane need support in attack, with Divock Origi hardly a consistent option.

A number of attackers have been linked with Liverpool as a result. The main names suggested have been RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

The Mirror claim that Liverpool do want Werner. However, they’re backing away from talks because they can’t convince Leipzig to take a lower fee than his £52million release clause.

The German has hit 31 goals and 12 assists for Leipzig this season, proving that he is one of the top strikers in Europe.

Meanwhile, Bleacher Report state that Liverpool may pursue a loan deal for Barcelona winger Dembele if they can’t land Werner, with Jurgen Klopp a big fan.

Now, Guillem Balague claims that Liverpool don’t want to do big deals this summer. Werner is so set on a move to Liverpool that he is willing to wait a year to make his move to Anfield.

Balague added that Dembele won’t be leaving Barca, and the intention is for him to play for Barcelona given that they can’t convince Paris Saint-Germain to take him.

“I’ve always been told from Liverpool that they don’t expect to do big deals, not in this transfer window,” said Balague. “For Timo Werner, who has said no to other clubs – including Bayern Munich – it’s Liverpool or staying for another season. Right now, it seems like staying is an option. It’s not the time to position yourself in the market, the market may last much longer than people think. Perhaps even October, some clubs are asking for, so there will be time to negotiate anything. Right now, the message from Liverpool is ‘we’re not going to do big deals in this window’, that’s what I’ve been told.”

“No, the intention is for him to play for Barcelona, recover from his injury and perhaps arrive for the last three, four, five games of the season. They would like, I feel, to make him part of a deal with PSG for Neymar, but PSG don’t want him at all. So, it looks like he is staying,” he added on Dembele.
