Bayern Munich reportedly want the Tottenham Hotspur star, but Guillem Balague says he only has eyes for Spain.
Guillem Balague has written on BBC Sport that Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen would favour a move to Spain – but Real Madrid and Barcelona aren’t interested.
Eriksen is in the final year of his contract in North London and does not seem keen on extending terms, despite being offered a new deal.
The Denmark international, who joined Tottenham in 2013, was heavily linked with a summer exit after publicly revealing that he wanted to leave Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
A transfer failed to materialise, however, and Eriksen, like many of his team-mates, has endured a horrendous run of form for much of the season so far, looking rather apathetic each time he pulls on the shirt.
Sport1 claimed this week that Bayern Munich – who thumped the Lilywhites 7-2 in a Champions League game earlier this month – were interested in the Ajax gem.
But according to Balague, a Spanish football expert, Eriksen only has eyes for La Liga’s big two.
He wrote on BBC Sport: “Christian Eriksen has been offered a new contract but he needs a new challenge and prefers a move to La Liga, but neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid have shown enough interest to take him away.”
This is significant for Tottenham because if neither Spanish giants want him, and he favours a move to Real or Barcelona over a switch to Germany, then it might favour Spurs.
If Balague’s claim is accurate, Eriksen has limited options and considering he is already a tried-and-tested player in the Premier League, staying put and picking up a salary hike might be beneficial for him.
