Guillem Balague has claimed on Twitter that Rafael Benitez will not return to Newcastle United at the moment.

The well-known and well-respected Spanish football journalist has said that the Magpies are not an option for Benitez under current owner Mike Ashley.

Balague has claimed that if there is a new owner, then the former Chelsea and Liverpool manager could return to St. James’ Park.

Benitez has just parted company with Chinese Super League club Dalian Pro and is wanted by Scottish Premiership giants Celtic, according to The Mirror.

The Spaniard was in charge of Newcastle from March 2016 until the summer of 2019 and is very popular among the fans of the Premier League club.

Newcastle United are struggling

Newcastle are struggling at the moment and are in danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season.

The Magpies are seven points clear of third-from-bottom Fulham, who have played a fewer game.

Newcastle manager Steven Bruce needs to get his side back to winning ways soon, starting with the match against Leeds United on Tuesday.
