Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, according to Guillem Balague.
James Rodriguez
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has told Sky Sports that Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez – but he may prefer a move elsewhere.
Rodriguez, 25, will often be remembered for his exceptional performances for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he hit six goals as Colombia reached the quarter-finals of the competition.
Then with Monaco, Rodriguez earned a blockbuster move to Real Madrid just weeks after the World Cup ended, and after 17 goals in his first season, he looked destined for stardom.
However, the playmaker has endured a tougher time over the last two seasons, as a after notching eight goals and eight assists last season, Rodriguez has started just seven La Liga games this term, registering only two league goals.
With Zinedine Zidane preferring a midfield trio of Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric when all fit, Rodriguez has struggled to carve out a role under the Frenchman – and many expect him to move on this summer.
Despite some struggles in Madrid, big clubs will be pursuing Rodriguez’s signature this summer, especially as many will still hark back to his displays at the 2014 World Cup.
Now, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has told Sky Sports that Liverpool are interested in signing Rodriguez this summer – but they aren’t the only club set to chase the Colombian star.

Balague added that Liverpool are ‘realistic’ about their pursuit of Rodriguez, as he wants to go to a club like Chelsea or fierce rivals Manchester United, with offers from Italy forthcoming too, meaning Liverpool face a battle to pull off a shock deal.
“Of course they are, but they aren’t the only one,” said Balague. “Liverpool are realistic and I think they realise James is looking for a different type of team.”
“But he is leaving the door open to all possibilities because he knows Real Madrid want to get rid of him. He would like to go to a club like Chelsea or Manchester United and he has offers from England and Italy but we will have to wait and see,” he added.
