The Tottenham Hotspur ace as been linked with a move away from the club in the summer.

Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague took part in a Q&A session for Sky Sports today, and responded to a fan asking him whether he believes Toby Alderweireld will still be a Spurs player next season.

The 28-year-old centre-back has been absent from Tottenham’s last two squads against Arsenal and Juventus respectively, having made his return from a three-month lay-off against Newport County in the FA Cup two weeks ago.

His omission from Spurs’ recent squads have led to rumours linking him with the exit door in the summer.

The Evening Standard claim that the Lilywhites are prepared to listen to offers for the Belgian at the end of this season – a move that would surely be viewed as a backward step by the majority of Spurs fans.

Balague, though, explained why Alderweireld is not indispensable to Tottenham, when taking part in a Q&A session for Sky Sports, suggesting that Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have the ability to more than make up for the void that would be left behind, should the Belgian leave in the summer:

“Falling out? Are you talking about him not travelling to Juve? He is recovering from an injury, is he not? I suppose you are talking about the contractual situation. Remember it is not Pochettino who deals with those. Best centre back in the world? I’m not sure he is. I personally think Eric Dier and Sanchez can be the best centre backs at Spurs very soon.”

Whether the 28-year-old does in fact end up leaving Tottenham remains to be seen, but if Mauricio Pochettino continues to overlook him for big games, the writing will surely be on the wall for him in north London.
