Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague appears to have killed Tottenham Hotspur fans’ Gareth Bale dream.
The Tottenham faithful remain fond on Bale despite the Welshman having left them for Real Madrid five years ago, and a trio of Spurs followers told HITC Sport at Christmas he’d be their dream January signing.
Bale has gone on to win one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey and three Champions Leagues in the Spanish capital, although injuries have diluted his impact in recent campaigns.
Speculation about a return to English football has been rife in the meantime, although according to Balague, a move back to Tottenham is looking unlikely.
Asked if the 28-year-old would consider another Spurs spell, Balague told Sky Sports: “Good question. But… I feel Bale considers his time at Spurs as something that is better not to go back to.
“Imagine if you were Bale, at the biggest club in the World, winning leagues and Club World Cups and Champions League. Imagine Spurs, despite the exciting future that lies ahead, approached you… what would you do?”
Bale arrived at Tottenham more than a decade ago from Southampton and spent six years at White Hart Lane before moving to Real for a then world record transfer fee.
Spurs’ best two Premier League finishes have, however, occurred since Bale’s exit – last season and the one prior to that.
