Fabrizio Romano has written in his email newsletter (7:39am, October 2, 2022) that there is nothing in rumours linking Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool with Real Betis defensive midfielder Guido Rodriguez.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that there is nothing in speculation that Liverpool want to sign Argentina international Rodriguez.
There have been rumours this week that Liverpool are looking to strengthen their midfield department in the January transfer window, and that the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners are competing with Arsenal for the 28-year-old.

Romano wrote: “Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez is the latest midfielder being linked with Liverpool.
“As I’ve said before, I think we can expect a lot of speculation of this kind, but my understanding is that this story is simply more speculation.
“At the moment, I have no concrete confirmations on any talk between Liverpool and Guido Rodriguez – I think he’s very good player but they need a top, top player in the midfielder to bring in new energy and quality.
“As I wrote last week, it’s common knowledge that Liverpool want a top midfield signing in 2023, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to know for sure who they’ll bring in.”
Need for a midfielder
In our view, Liverpool could do with a midfielder who can hold his own in the middle of the park and also drive the team forward.
Yes, of course, the Reds signed Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus in the summer transfer window, but the Brazil international is yet to make an impact at the Merseyside club.
Klopp is going to persevere with Arthur, but we should not forget that he is only on loan.
It is very likely that Liverpool will wait until next summer to sign a dynamic midfielder.
After all, no club will want to sell their best players in the middle of the season.
