Manchester City striker John Guidetti has revealed that he turned down offers from Serie A to join Celtic on loan.

Swedish forward John Guidetti will spend the season at Celtic and has admitted he could have moved to Italy instead.

The 22-year-old hasn’t had a look-in at Manchester City since arriving in 2008 when he caught then manager Sven-Goran Eriksson’s eye.

Guidetti has been sent on loan to a host of clubs, including, most recently, Stoke City, and he will get a chance to test himself in the Scottish Premier League for Celtic.

“Other clubs wanted me like Olympiacos, AIK, Ajax, Fiorentina and Palermo,” Guidetti told Swedish podcast Heja Sverige.

“But I chose Celtic and I am happy that I did.”

The talented youngster has pledged to try and imitate boyhood hero Henrik Larsson, who wore a Celtic shirt between 1997 and 2004, scoring a staggering 174 goals in 221 appearances and becoming a legend.

Guidetti’s potential was clearly shown at Dutch side Feyenoord, where he netted 20 times in 23 games while on loan during the 2011-12 campaign.
