Even in friendlies, it appears that Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney wears his heart on his sleeve.
The Gunners dismantled Watford in a behind-closed-doors clash at London Colney on Wednesday in preparation of the 2021-22 season.
Arsenal won 4-1 and there were a number of stand-out displays – including from Albert Sambi Lokonga and Miguel Azeez, who scored – but some fans were left discussing a second-half incident involving Tierney and a rival player.
Going by images streamed by Arsenal’s website, it seems like the former Celtic defender had to be held back by head coach Mikel Arteta from confronting an opponent in the 73rd minute of the game, when the hosts were leading 2-1.
Here’s how some fans of the Emirates Stadium club reacted on Twitter:
Tierney all over
It remains to be seen what provoked the Scotland international in the first place, but this sums him up nonetheless.
Tierney is a winner and has leadership qualities in spades, so it’s possible that the opponent didn’t even do directly anything to him and could’ve been simply standing up for a teammate.
The £25 million Unai Emery signing was a massive asset for Arteta last season and was even the club’s most creative player at one point, despite technically being a defender.
But injuries haven’t been kind to the 23-year-old and if Arsenal – who kick off their Premier League season with a clash against Brentford on August 14 – want to have a good season next time around, it’s vital that he’s fit.
