Fabrizio Romano has claimed on the Here We Go Podcast that Manchester City now think Nuno Mendes is ‘perfect’ for them, just six months after Liverpool made an approach for him.

Record reported in September that Liverpool had made contact with Sporting Lisbon over doing a deal for their prized youngster.

Liverpool were unable to force through a move at the time, though, and it could be that they live to regret that.

City are now being strongly linked with the left-back, who is valued at around £60 million by the Portuguese club (Calcio Mercato).

“It won’t be a easy race for Nuno Mendes, but Manchester City are in. They are convinced he would be perfect,” Romano said.

At that price it is easy to see why Liverpool did walk away from any deal to take the youngster, given they have Andy Robertson already at the club.

But if City do now go and sign Mendes, he could make them even tougher to beat.

City don’t have many weaknesses, but their options at left-back aren’t as strong as in other areas of their side.

And Mendes could end up being an astute signing for the years ahead, given his age and ability.
