Pep Guardiola has claimed that Arsenal are invariably the better team in most matches – even when they lose.
The Emirates Stadium plays host on Sunday as Arsenal welcome Guardiola’s Manchester City to the capital.
The Gunners are 10th in the Premier League table and considering City are going for 17 wins in a row, it’s clear who the favourites are.
It’ll be a case of master versus apprentice as Arteta – who spent a few years as Guardiola’s number two at Eastlands – comes up against one of his mentors.
Arsenal’s form this season could be described as erratic at best and back-to-back defeats by Wolves and Aston Villa in recent weeks undid a lot of the good work Arteta did at turning things around, after the North Londoners were worryingly close to the relegation zone by mid-December.
But Guardiola has been observing Arteta’s side with great interest and he’s told a press conference today that Sunday’s opponents are almost always the better team in their matches – win, lose or draw – over the past two months
He said: “All I can say is the last month or twos is that managers need time. But what I’ve seen over the past two months, every game Arsenal is better than the opponent.”
