Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal for their performance at the Emirates Stadium, as quoted on BBC Sport.

Guardiola has said that Arsenal were better than Manchester City in the Premier League game on New Year’s Day.

Arsenal lost 2-1 to the defending Premier League champions on Saturday.

The Gunners had Gabriel sent off in the second half for two bookable offences.

Pep Guardiola on Arsenal

Guardiola said, as quoted by BBC Sport: “Arsenal were better. We face a team that in recent years has struggled to be in the top four.

“They start this season bottom, bottom, bottom. They have six days after beating Norwich, we have two days. It was so tough for us to come back.

“We had no energy. They is why we pout one more player in the middle to get more control and passes. We know in transitions and physicality they have it can be difficult.”

Arsenal impressive

In our opinion, Arsenal were very good against Manchester City on New Year’s Day.

We do not think that it would have been undeserved for the Gunners if they had drawn the match or even won it.

Martin Odegaard was controversially denied a penalty in the first half.

Had Gabriel not been sent off in the second half, then maybe, just maybe, Arsenal could have gone on to take something from the game.

Guardiola’s comments about Arsenal show just how far the Gunners have come since the start of the season.

The North London club are certainly in the running for the Premier League top four.

Things are looking good for Arsenal at the moment.
