Alan Shearer has claimed that Rangers fans will be ‘growling’ at Tim Sherwood for suggesting that Steven Gerrard should join Newcastle, as he told Premier League Productions (17/10/21 at 1:15 pm).
The outspoken TV pundit thinks the Premier League legend should leave Rangers and take the reigns at the cash-rich Newcastle.
Gerrard won the Scottish Premiership title with Rangers last season and his name has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Steve Bruce, as reported by the Daily Mail.
It hasn’t been more obvious that Bruce will be sacked by Newcastle, but for whatever reason, the club are delaying that call.
Shearer thinks there will be managers out there, both in and out-of-work, who will be ‘desperate’ to take the Newcastle gig, as he reacted to Sherwood’s comments.
“Rangers fans are growling at Tim Sherwood around the world right now,” said Shearer.
Sherwood responded: “They are bigger than Newcastle worldwide. But he is still in a job managing Rangers.”
Shearer added: “If or when they make a decision to appoint a new manager. I think there will be so many managers that are out of work, so many managers who are currently in the job, who will be desperate for that job.”

There’s no doubt that Gerrard has the name and pulling power to take the gig at St James’ Park.
In terms of pressure, he would have felt it on a number of occasions as a player and during his time at Ibrox, where he helped the Gers end Celtic’s attempts to win a historic ten-in-a-row.
But if the 41-year-old were to be appointed by the Magpies, and it would be a surprise if he left Rangers midway during the season, then it’s a different kettle of fish joining a side that’s bang in trouble in England’s top-flight.
Whilst there is a big pot of money to spend down the line, at this moment in time, Newcastle are sitting in the relegation zone, without a win and heading into one direction and one direction only.
