Leeds United are reportedly keen on NEC Nijmegen’s Jay-Roy Grot.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are interested in signing NEC Nijmegen striker Jay-Roy Grot as they contemplate life after Chris Wood.
The Whites saw Wood hit 30 goals last season, and whilst they managed to fend off interest in him throughout the summer, they have now sold the New Zealand international to Premier League side Burnley in a big-money deal.
Wood’s goals make him hard to replace, and Leeds are certainly in the market for at least one more striker, and possibly more given that Caleb Ekuban suffered an injury against Sunderland on Saturday.
Now, the Yorkshire Evening Post report that Leeds are not only pursuing Middlesbrough hitman Rudy Gestede, but also NEC Nijmegen’s Jay-Roy Grot as they eye up striking options ahead of the transfer deadline.
Grot, 19, has been on the books with NEC since way back in 2008, making his way up through the ranks to eventually become a first-team player, scoring four goals in 30 Eredivisie appearances.
A Dutch Under-19 international, Grot’s career totals stand at 12 goals in 48 games, and he looks to be one for the future having shown promise in the Netherlands so far.
Standing at 6ft 4in tall, Grot possesses great size and strength but also a turn of pace, and he could be an ideal target man in the coming years, especially if used initially as cover for a proven target man like Gestede.
Leeds fans may not be encouraged by his goalscoring record, but at just 19, Grot can become a major player in the coming years, rather than being the immediate replacement for Wood.
