It hasn’t proven a brilliant first season for Emerson Royal at Tottenham Hotspur yet.

The Brazilian right-back joined Spurs from Barcelona under Nuno Espirito Santo but he hasn’t really set the Premier League alight.

In midweek, Emerson struggled again as Tottenham got dumped out of the FA Cup by Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

And the former Barca defender actually played the match winner onside for his decisive goal.

AS in Spain report that it was ‘grotesque’ error from the 23-year-old who seemingly has a lot to do to convince the Italian manager that he’s good enough long term.

According to The Times, Conte is decidely ‘unconvinced’ by the South American in North London and no doubt that his performance in the FA Cup shambles will have only added to the manager’s lack of faith in the player.

The report from AS adds that it seems like the Camp Nou outfit struck a ‘golden deal’ in getting £26 million for Emerson.

And based on his first season in the Premier League, well it’s certainly difficult to disagree with that assessment.
