Groningen sporting director claims no offers yet for Mimoun Mahi

Leeds United and Nottingham Forest could be going head-to-head this January for the signing of Groningen striker Mimoun Mahi.

The Sun recently reported that Mahi had a £2m release clause and Nottingham Forest were one of several clubs showing interest.

The Yorkshire Evening Post has since reported claims that the Morocco international is also a potential target for Leeds during the January transfer window.

Despite the interest from both Forest and Leeds his sporting director at Groningen has now made it clear there is currently no concrete interest. He told Dagblad Van Het Noorden this week that there was currently no concrete interest for the talented forward:

“So far, there is nothing on the table yet.”

Mahi has scored seven goals in 17 appearances for the Eredivisie club this season but earlier this month made it clear he saw his future elsewhere:

“I need a new step, a new environment. I’m certainly open to a transfer,” the 23-year-old told Dutch publication De Telegraaf.

Whilst there is nothing currently on the move for Mahi’s potential switch to England there is no doubt this remains a very possible transfer pursuit for both Forest and Leeds this upcoming winter window.
