Ethan Robson was the hero for Grimsby Town on Saturday as he sent a message to League One parent club Sunderland.

Sunderland loanee Ethan Robson lit up the fourth tier with a stunning solo goal on Saturday and Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley has lauded his best display since joining the League Two outfit on loan, speaking to The Mariners official website.
With 56 minutes on the clock, Robson produced a moment of sheer class that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Premier League.
Latching onto a long through ball on the left hand side, the Sunderland starlet cut inside a baffled Macclesfield Town defender before firing a fizzing shot into the roof of the net. His brilliant individual goal was enough to seal Grimsby’s first league win in four attempts so no wonder Jolley was feeling, well, jolly.
“It was an excellent goal – I think today was probably his strongest performance for us. I really like the way he plays, he’s got a super left foot and it was a terrific goal,” said the 42-year-old, who has impressed with his tactical flexibility since taking over in 2017.

Robson could do with a few more goals like this if he wants to salvage a Sunderland career which has been ravaged by injuries since he made his breakthrough two years ago.
The academy graduate is out of contract at the end of the season and a loan spell at Grimsby feels like a make-or-break opportunity for a player whose natural ability has never been in question, even if his fitness record continues to draw concerned glances.
