Leeds United fans have been left baffled by Sam Allardyce’s claims that his West Bromwich Albion side were always in the game against them.
Leeds ran out 3-1 winners over the Baggies, and were in front as early as the 17th minute – when Rodrigo found the back of the net.
But Allardyce said after the game that he felt the match was a fairly even one.
He said, in his press conference, which was broadcast on Beanyman Sports’ Youtube channel: “It’s very much us in a nutshell today, always in the game but we missed a chance to go 1-0 up in the first minute, free header in the six yards box, and other chances after that.”
The comments have left Leeds fans surprised, as they simply cannot recall many chances which the Baggies created.
In fairness to West Brom they did have 14 shots in the contest, including five on target.
But Leeds were definitely the dominant force, with their class shining through once again.
Leeds have finished the season brilliantly and if the campaign had only been extended for a few weeks longer they may well have qualified for Europe.
The way that Leeds have ended the campaign really does raise optimism for next campaign though.
And if the Whites can make some solid additions in the summer, there is real hope that they could challenge in the upper echelons of the table.
