The Atletico Madrid star made it clear that the Tottenham goalkeeper is a key figure in the Les Bleus dressing room.
France’s national soccer team captain Hugo Lloris
Atletico Madrid hotshot Antoine Griezmann has been speaking to L’Equipe, as quoted by the Evening Standard, about the influence France and Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has in the dressing room.
It paints a brief but interesting insight of what the 29-year-old is like with his teammates, with the forward’s words indicating the Spurs stopper has the respect of his peers and also an opinion worth listening to.
“Hugo doesn’t speak that much,” Griezmann is quoted as saying by the Standard. “[He] keeps to himself more than Patrice Evra [a previous France captain], but when he speaks, there’s a silence in the dressing room.”
France’s Antoine Griezmann in action
Both Lloris and Griezmann were key figures in France’s march to the European Championships last summer. Playing on home soil, the goalkeeper led his side out in each of their games, and made a number of crucial saves to get Les Bleus to the final in Paris.
La Liga star Griezmann was an influence at the other end of the pitch, becoming the tournament’s top scorer and best player as he scored six times over the course of the summer. It was continuation on what was a stunning second season with Atletico where he netted 32 times in 54 games.
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris
Spurs supporters will be very familiar with Lloris’ leadership qualities, having seen their side reach their highest Premier League finish since the early 1990s with the former Lyon man as skipper.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino is clearly a big fan of the goalkeeper, and it may be no coincidence that Spurs had their best goals against record in the Premier League last season with Lloris marshalling those in front of him.
