Leeds United farmed Yosuke Ideguchi out to 2.Bundesliga club Greuther Furth in the summer.
You have to feel for Yosuke Ideguchi.
The Japanese midfielder’s career has stalled since his £500,000 move to Leeds United at the start of the year. He has not even come close to making a first-team appearance for the Whites and, after a disappointing loan spell at Cultural Leonesa, was omitted from Japan’s World Cup squad.
This is despite the fact that it was Ideguchi’s wonderful goal in a win against Australia that booked Japan’s place on the plane to Russia.
In a further blow to the 22-year-old midfielder, Ideguchi has now suffered a serious ligament injury which could rule him out for nine months.
This is likely to bring a premature end to his latest loan spell at German second tier side Greuther Furth. And, after making a decent impact in the 2.Bundesliga, the former Gamba Osaka man will be missed.
“He has shown us a great attitude so far and we’ll miss him a lot,” manager Damir Buric told Nordbayern.
Ideguchi was starting to make a name for himself in Germany, starting three times and scoring in Greuther Furth’s 4-1 thrashing of Holstein Kiel recently.
He needed to impress in Germany to spark a Mateusz Klich-style resurgence at Leeds, but a long-term absence now casts doubt on his hopes of a future at Elland Road.
