Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the Gremio ace.

Brazil's Gremio forward Luan (R) celebrates with teammates after scoring a goal against Argentina's Lanus during the Copa Libertadores 2017 final football match at Lanus stadium in Lanus,...

Yahoo Sport claimed yesterday that Brazilian ace Luan has opened talks with the Reds over the possibility of a January switch to Anfield, and the player responded to the rumours linking him with a move to Merseyside during a press conference last night, as quoted by Brazilian media outlet GZH.

Jürgen Klopp will be desperate to bolster his attacking ranks at Liverpool this month, following Philippe Coutinho’s departure three weeks ago, and Luan would certainly add some flair to Reds’ attacking play.

Luan takes part in a training session at the Beira Rio Stadium on August 29, 2017 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, ahead of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Ecuador on August 31.

The 24-year-old has scored 10 goals in 35 outings in all competitions for Gremio this season, whilst operating predominantly as an attacking midfielder, and he has drawn many plaudits for his fine performances.

It is little wonder why Liverpool are interested in signing him, especially with the £15.7 million release clause inserted into his contract with the Brazilian club.

Luan addressed the media last night, however, and poured cold water over a potential switch to Anfield, as quoted by Brazilian media outlet GZH:

“If I knew, I wouldn’t hide. I always said that I would leave it to Gremio and to my agent, and if they had something concrete, they should talk to me. No-one has come to me, so there is nothing. It has to be good for me, it has to be good for Gremio. I will not rush to want to leave soon, just like in the middle of last year. For the moment that we were through, I decided to stay. It was my decision alone. Now it’s the start of the season and I want to regain my form and rhythm to play. What I know is that I want to play the next game as soon as possible here at Gremio.”

Following Luan’s remarks, it seems as though he will be staying in Brazil for the foreseeable future, but things can change quickly in football, and it will surely be hard for him to resist the temptation of moving to the Premier League, if Liverpool do in fact offer him an opportunity.
