Rangers let Greg Taylor leave the club in 2014 – and have now had to watch on as he joins bitter rivals Celtic.

The Gers were bringing Taylor through their ranks, but let him go in 2014, when he then moved on to sign for Kilmarnock.

That move paid dividends for Taylor, as the 21-year-old played regularly for Killie, becoming a star at Rugby Park, particularly under Steve Clarke.

Now a Scotland international, Taylor looks set for a bright future, and he’s heading back to Glasgow – but not for a return to Rangers.

Instead, Taylor is heading to the other side of the Old Firm, as Celtic secured the defender’s signature on deadline day.

Taylor will now look to replace Kieran Tierney as Celtic’s first-choice left back, and leave Rangers regretting their decision to let him go…or at least even more than they already are.

Taylor did tell The Daily Record in 2017 that he supported Rangers growing up, so some have been left a little surprised to see him join Celtic now.

Taylor has now reflected on his Rangers exit, suggesting that it’s merely part of the game and hasn’t been his motivation in his career, as he just wanted to be a success at Kilmarnock rather than let his Rangers exit be the inspiration for success.

“In football there are lots of ups and downs, it’s just part of the game,” said Taylor. “There are going to be more in my career to go but I’m at Celtic now and I just have to grasp the opportunity I have and I can’t wait. I have a lot of belief in myself and Kilmarnock gave me a great chance.”

“My motivation was to get in the first team there and I managed to do that at 18 and touch wood haven’t missed many games since. And now I have this great opportunity to play for a great club like Celtic,” he added.
