Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing Greg Stewart to Ibrox on a free transfer this summer.

It was reported by the Daily Record over the weekend that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is interested in signing Greg Stewart on a free transfer in the summer.
It appears to be a smart move to switch some of the focus to the upcoming window. Despite their spirited performance once down to 10 men on Sunday, a look at the Scottish Premiership table highlights that Gerrard’s men are still some way off ending their wait for that title win.
But a move for Stewart arguably hints that that wait for the title has every chance of going on longer as, even on a free transfer, signing the 29-year-old could be a seriously underwhelming deal for the Gers.
Stewart was outstanding with Kilmarnock during the first-half of the campaign, scoring eight goals and contributing seven assists. But since heading to Aberdeen, the former Ibrox trainee has had a torrid time. He is yet to score or provide an assist in the top flight for the Dons.

Stewart’s versatility may appeal to Gerrard. But if Rangers feel that they need to add to their striker options this summer, surely the Gers should be setting their sights a lot higher.
His record at Killie suggests he could contribute, but it jumps off the page no more than Kyle Lafferty’s did during the spell at Hearts that earned the Northern Irishman a move back to Ibrox.

Rangers arguably do not need anymore squad players in midfield or attacking areas. They have the depth to allow the club to focus on marquee names that are going to take Gerrard’s strongest lineup to the next level.
A deal for Stewart would not capture the imagination by any means. If Rangers want to really turn the tables next season, they need to be thinking much bigger.
