Greg Stewart has told the Record’s Rangers podcast that Ibrox fans will not appreciate just how good Connor Goldson is at centre-back – until the defender leaves. Goldsonis out of contract Rangers at the end of the season.

Goldson, 29, has been immense since joining Rangers back in the summer of 2018 from Brighton. In less than four years, the defender has surpassed 200 appearances for the club – with Thursday set to be his 209th.

In his near four years, he has missed just 11 games – an incredible stat that shows both his toughness, but also his consistency. The Gers are in danger of losing the defender this summer, with clubs down south likely to be keen.

Stewart praised Goldson when discussing his teammate and captain James Tavernier. He told Rangers fans that they will not fully appreciate his impact on the team until he goes – which could be as soon as this summer.

“Connor Goldson, they won’t appreciate how good he is until he goes. He has only missed a couple of games since he has come in,” Stewart – who is playing in Indian football – told the Record’s Rangers podcast this week.

Stewart on Goldson: Fair on Rangers fans regarding defender?

Goldson has shown, with his performances north of the border and in European football, that he is good enough to play in the Premier League. Not only that, but his consistency is remarkable.

So, to lose Goldson would be a huge blow. Not only that, but to lose him for nothing is enormous. Rangers desperately need to tie Goldson down to a new deal, even it is just to keep him in order to gain a transfer fee.
