Jake Hastie sealed his switch to Rangers from Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell recently, joining Greg Docherty at Ibrox.

Greg Dochery has warned Jake Hastie that adapting to life at Rangers will be a challenge as the Motherwell winger prepares for a summer move to Ibrox, as reported by the Daily Record.

Despite interest from a whole host of clubs in the top two divisions of English football, Steven Gerrard’s side pulled off a real coup when they snapped up Hastie on a pre-contract agreement recently.

The 21-year-old wide man, whose hammer of a left foot have earned him comparisons to Gareth Bale, scored six goals in just 12 games since returning to Motherwell from a loan spell at Alloa Athletic in January.

Hastie has been tipped to make a huge impact at Ibrox but Docherty knows how difficult it is to live up to such lofty expectations, having spent most of his Rangers career out on loan at Shrewsbury Town since joining from Hamilton in January 2018.

“It’s a massive opportunity for him. It might take him time to adapt as Rangers is such a big club. When I made my move from Accies, the thing that I had to get used to was making sure I got that consistency of performance,” Docherty said.

“The club requires that you perform as close to maximum as you can at all times. The competition is so fierce that if you don’t manage that, you’ll lose your jersey.

“There will be a lot more opinions voiced about Jake than he will have been used to at Motherwell. I used to read all the stuff in the papers about me when I was at Hamilton but I learned not to after making my move because you can’t afford to let what’s said affect you.

“You have to develop a thick skin when you play for a club like Rangers.”

Hastie could soon be playing alongside Docherty, who is deserving of a second chance in Glasgow after an outstanding spell in League One with Shrewsbury. The midfielder scored 10 goals and produced 11 assists in his time away from Ibrox.
