Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have a season-defining 10-day period ahead and they need Jamie Murphy.

Greg Docherty has revealed to The Scottish Herald on Wednesday that he does not believe the injury sustained by Rangers team-mate Jamie Murphy is a serious one.

The in-form Rangers star worried the Gers’ fans on Tuesday by limping out of the 4-1 win at St Johnstone with a foot injury.

The 28-year-old has been nothing short of a revelation at Ibrox since joining on a half-season loan from Brighton, scoring three goals and setting up five in his last three games for Graeme Murty’s side.

But with big games on the horizon, the sight of him injured was a huge worry.

Rangers host Falkirk in a Scottish Cup quarter-final on Sunday, before then welcoming Old Firm rivals Celtic to Ibrox a week later in a massive Premiership encounter.

Murty will need the talents of Murphy at his disposal for both games, and Docherty used his team-mate post-match demeanour to suggest that the former Motherwell ace should be okay.

“Obviously, we hope it is nothing serious and we get him back for the weekend. He looked in good spirits after the game so I am hoping it is nothing serious and is just precautionary,” the former Hamilton man – who cost £675,000 in January – told The Scottish Herald.

Considering that Murphy, according to Docherty, was in “good spirits”, it might indicate that the man himself is calm over the severity of the problem, which is hugely encouraging for the Ibrox club.
