‘Great skill’: Sky pundit lauds Celtic deal after delivering rare sight vs Hibs

Andy Walker has praised Aaron Mooy for his two goals as Celtic beat Hibernian 4-0 away at Easter Road. The Sky Sports pundit also praised Ange Postecoglou’s swoop to sign him.

Mooy struck home to break the deadlock after 28 minutes before adding to their lead on 58’ with a penalty. Daizen Maeda (36’) and Kyogo Furuhashi (64’) also rippled the back of David Marshall’s goal. The win maintained Celtic’s nine-point lead atop the Premiership table.

Maeda bagged the best goal of the bench as the Japan forward curled the ball home from the edge of the area. The 25-year-old was also the architect for Mooy’s first goal for Celtic as his speed and trickery made space on the wing to beat Chris Cadden and work a cross.

Joe Newell could only redivert Maeda’s cross into Mooy’s path before the Australian sent a first-time volley into the goal. His powerful drive under Marshall was also the 32-year-old’s first goal for Celtic. He joined the Hoops as a free agent in July after quitting Shanghai Port.

Celtic’s trip to Hibernian on Wednesday marked Mooy’s 24th appearance for the Bhoys in all competitions so far. He had laid on four assists across the 57-cap star’s previous outings with the Glasgow team. But he has only now started in seven of his 17 Premiership games.

Walker praises Mooy for giving Celtic another goalscorer with a brace at Hibernian

Mooy has offered all of his goal involvements for Celtic so far in Premiership matches with his brace at Hibernian his first goals. The Sydney native finally breaking his duct impressed former Hoops forward Walker, who hails Mooy for offering the Bhoys a new central threat.

“Celtic have got another goalscoring midfielder in Mooy,” Walker said on Sky Sports. “He showed great skill and composure and sent David Marshall the wrong way, and secured all three points. Celtic won’t lose a three-goal advantage.”

Mooy is now the 16th Celtic player to score at least one goal across all competitions so far this term with his brace at Hibernian. He joins captain Callum McGregor (two in 16 games), David Turnbull (two in 21) and Reo Hatate (four in 24) to net from Postecoglou’s midfield.
