Paul Robinson says duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur have been ‘two great signings’ for Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Spurs goalkeeper was shedding light on what has been the positives for Spurs this season, before ripping Antonio Conte for his lack of adaptability as a manager.

One constant criticism that has been aimed at the Italian during his time at Spurs, but especially this season, has been the style of play.

Tottenham are sitting in fourth spot in the Premier League table and, in recent weeks, they have been booted out of the FA Cup and Champions League.

All of that has just pilled the pressure on Conte in the dugout, who is expected to leave in the summer, with various names, such as Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, mentioned to replace the former Inter Milan boss.

Nonetheless, when discussing Tottenham’s season, Paul Robinson spoke about how Spurs are predictable, whilst also praising Kulusevski and Bentancur, as he told the Football Show on Sky Sports News (15/03/23).

“If plan A doesn’t work, then they do plan A with different personnel,” said Robinson. “With Antonio Conte, you know what system you are going to play against. You also probably know nine out of 11 players that are probably going to play.

“I think they have been a poor watch this season. I haven’t enjoyed watching Tottenham, at times. Defensively, they have been vulnerable and he will say ‘we haven’t got the players and we haven’t been able to evolve the squad like we have been able to do and bring the players in’.

“Certain players have worked. Kulusevski and Bentancur have been two great signings. But I don’t think Tottenham are at the level where they should be.”

BENTANCUR INJURY IS A MASSIVE BLOW

There have been many low moments for Tottenham this season, but one of the lowest moments was the long-term injury to Rodrigo Bentancur.

You have to ask ‘what is the bigger blow?’ Bentancur missing the rest of this current campaign, which has seen Spurs knocked out of two cup competitions without his presence and possibly missing out on a top-four finish as well.

Or the fact that he will also miss several months of next season? Because that’s going to hurt the club.

That’s where those in the Tottenham boardroom, with or without Conte, need to put money on the table and bring in another top-quality midfielder to fill Bentancur’s void.
