Doncaster fans have taken to Twitter to react after the League One outfit confirmed the signing of Matt Smith from Arsenal.
What’s the story?
Well, it’s safe to say the Doncaster supporters are happy with this one.
Smith has joined on a season-long loan, where he will gain even more experience in England’s third tier.
The 20-year-old spent time with Swindon in League One last term, where he scored two goals and provided three assists.
The Hale End graduate then enjoyed a brief stint at Charlton in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.
Now, Smith gets another chance to impress Richie Wellens, who managed Swindon last season before moving to Doncaster.
On that note alone, Wellens is clearly a fan of Arsenal’s young prospect.
No chance of a Championship loan?

In regards to Smith’s development, is it worth sending him out on a third stint at a League One club?
The playmaker is an exceptional talent, and could probably hold his own in the Championship despite his age.
Even just a few cameo appearances and some starts in England’s second tier would test Smith’s ability more than another stint in League One.

Loans are all about development and easing prospects into the senior game, so there’s no point keeping Smith in League One.
Nevertheless, the Doncaster fans seem happy with Arsenal’s decision, even if we aren’t entirely convinced.
Let’s see what they’ve been saying about Smith’s arrival…
