Nigel de Jong has claimed that he is ‘very excited’ about Donny van de Beek possibly joining Everton from Manchester United, as he told Deadline Day on Sky Sports (31/01/22 at 10:40 am).
The former Holland international shared that his fellow countryman will be a ‘great signing’ for Everton and he ‘deserves much better’ after how he was treated at Man United.
Even though those in the Old Trafford boardroom paid big bucks for the midfielder’s talents, he constantly found himself warming the club’s bench.
Whether it was under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or now under Ralf Rangnick, he just never seemed to earn those starts that fans think he deserved at Old Trafford.
But he is set to get that game time at Everton as they are closing on his loan signing, according to Sky Sports.
And de Jong loves that the former Ajax man is set to earn a move to the blue half of Merseyside before Monday’s 11pm deadline.
“With Van de Beek, I think it’s a great signing,” said de Jong. “Really pleased for the kid.
“He deserves so much better, especially how Man United treated him over the last year and a half. I am very excited about that one.
“This kid needs to be in the national team for the quality that he has, it’s not for him to be sitting on the bench somewhere. I respect him for how he has handled himself during these couple of months by staying quiet and doing his job.
“That says something about his character and what you have as a player.”

It’s Frank Lampard who is set to take the Goodison Park hot seat and it will be interesting how Van de beek works under his stewardship.
One of the greatest midfielders of all time, not just Van de beek, but this Everton team should be excited at the prospect of working for Lampard.
Steven Gerrard has had a positive impact at Villa Park and the Toffees supporters will be hoping the same happens with them.
Until then, it seems as though Van de beek is set to be Lampard’s first signing at Everton, even though he hasn’t been officially announced yet.
